Tarek Khoury, P.E.
Solar Advisor
Tarek Khoury has designed more than 3GW of solar arrays across the U.S. and the United Arab Emirates. With an established background in mechanical engineering, and a thorough understanding of electrical, civil, structural, and geotechnical disciplines, Tarek ties together the multiple engineering facets of a project into a cohesive, low-cost design. Incorporating best practices from previous project designs, his goal is to drive down costs while building safer, long-lasting solar systems.
Active in the renewable power industry since 2005, Tarek reviews new technologies to ensure they will be high-quality and cost-effective for climatic conditions, installation complexity and for operational capabilities, and the amount of material needed to comply with specifications. His selection of critical components most susceptible to damage is based on durability and quality to keep maintenance and operations costs low.
During development and project acquisition phases of a project. Tarek provides expertise in production assessment and leverages on his experience to execute detailed technical due diligence for projects being acquired by developers and investors.
During construction, Tarek clarifies any design or manufacturer questions, supports quality assurance and quality control in the field to confirm compliance to design standards, and reviews testing protocols, procedures, and material submissions for conformity to drawings.
Tarek’s expertise spans several industries, including 15 years of experience working with large construction and energy companies, such as Bechtel Corporation and Pacific Gas and Electric. He has served as an engineering director/project manager in the engineering and construction industry both domestically and internationally. Tarek has managed teams delivering multiple megawatt designs for utility- and large-scale commercial projects. He also sits on the advisory board of domestic and international renewable energy startups.
